Nintendo Switch 2 Preorders Go Live April 9

Nintendo fans won’t have to wait much longer to get their hands on the Switch 2. The successor to one of the best-selling video game consoles of all time is slated to release June 5, Nintendo announced during its hour-long livestream that fully lifted the veil on the Switch 2. You also don’t have to wait much longer to preorder the Nintendo Switch 2, as Nintendo revealed that major retailers will open reservations online and in stores on April 9. You’ll have two options to choose from, the Switch 2 on its own for $450 or the Switch 2 bundled with Mario Kart World for $500.

Major retailers are starting to create store pages for the Switch 2 system as well as first-party accessories and games. GameSpot’s Nintendo Switch 2 preorder guide will continue to evolve as more product listings pop up. In addition to the two Switch 2 console options, you’ll find all of the first-party accessories along with pricing details and preorder availability for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 games arriving on launch day and beyond.

Nintendo Switch 2 Release Date & Delivery Times

The Nintendo Switch 2 releases June 5, but when will you actually get your hands on the console if you secure a preorder? So far, the answer to that question is also June 5.

If you preorder from Walmart, the retailer will deliver your console by 9 AM local time on launch day. That’s a fairly unprecedented guarantee for a gaming launch.

Best Buy will be hosting a midnight launch for the Switch 2 at many of its locations. If interested, you should check with your local Best Buy and ensure you choose in-store pickup when placing your order online.

Will the Nintendo Switch 2 be sold on Amazon?

The major unknown at the moment is Amazon–and not just when it comes to preorders. There’s a chance, and perhaps a good one, that Amazon won’t carry the Nintendo Switch 2 in general, or at least not at launch. Amazon is the only major retailer without a mention or Switch 2 banner on its site. When it comes to video games, the retailer’s Nintendo store page hasn’t been updated in months.

For the past year, the relationship between Amazon and Nintendo has clearly been rocky. Amazon hasn’t stocked the vast majority of first-party Nintendo Switch games, both new releases and hits from years past. Perhaps more telling is the fact that Amazon didn’t carry the 2024 Nintendo Switch holiday bundles, the Hyrule Edition Switch Lite, or the recently released Super Mario Bros. Wonder Switch OLED console bundle. We’ve reached out to Amazon to see if it expects to have the Nintendo Switch 2 in stock and will update this story if we receive clarification. If Amazon is planning on carrying the Switch 2, its Nintendo store page will likely update in the coming days.
